Here at LabBrain, we deliver the quality service you deserve and a final product that maximizes your company’s visual potential. Whether this is your first time seeking a design studio or you’ve had previous experience with commissioning projects, it’s important to find collaborators you feel comfortable with. We understand that all design projects are different — and each client brings something unique to our worktable. That’s why we make getting to know you and your project our first priority.

The details of each project will always vary, but understanding our work methods gives you insight into how we can be of service to your company and why we produce such effective design solutions. We typically follow a process that consists of the following steps:

  1. Design Consultation

    The first step in a successful collaboration is making sure we understand your design needs. We’ll discuss your situation and clarify the broader goals of your company so we can offer the best assistance in making prudent design decisions. No matter what the budget, we want to help you get the most out of your A&P dollars. We take as much time as necessary at this early stage to get to know you, your business, your target audience and your competition. Establishing clarity as we begin ensures that as we move forward, we are heading in the same direction.


  2. Project Proposal & Agreement

    After discussing your project, we’ll put together a formal proposal that specifies exactly what you are getting, when you will get it, and how much it will cost. Our agreement guarantees that we stick to the proposal. It’s simple to read and is for your benefit as much as ours.


  3. Research

    Before we start designing anything we need to have a clear idea of what’s already out there. Spending a lot of time and money developing an idea that has already been executed for a competitor is hardly in your best interest, so we educate ourselves about your competitors. What are they doing that works? What could they improve on? How can we differentiate you from them? Today even small companies can have global relevance. That makes your need for unique and meaningful branding all the more important.


  4. Brainstorm & Sketch

    Yes, we still use pencils and pens to draw. In fact, the best ideas come from pages filled with odd and wacky drawings. As the poet Randall Jarrell once said, "The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas."


  5. Presentation 1: Preliminary Designs

    The sketches are then edited down to the most effective themes. We like to show clients three ideas that solve the design challenge in very different ways because we firmly believe that there is not just one solution to any given problem, but many. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we don’t just want you to like the design — we want you to love it.

    While these designs may look finished, we consider them preliminary because they have not yet been refined


  6. Design Revisions & Collateral Design

    You pick your favorite of the three solutions and we discuss any ideas for modifications, revisions, or enhancements. We also start developing any collateral designs that might accompany the piece. If we were designing a logo, for example, we’d start designing the business cards and letterhead at this point in the process.


  7. Presentation 2: Round 2 Designs & Collateral

    The round 2 designs are presented. These are finished and complete and should only require minor changes before final approval. After you choose the final version of the piece we make any small changes that are needed, including prepress file preparation.


  8. Presentation 3: Final Design

    After getting final approval, we’re ready for any presswork or deployment that may be needed. Collateral products can be designed, email blasts can be sent, and advertisements can be submitted.


  9. Service — Maintenance

    Our work is complete — for the time being. We can offer one stop service, but we’re always happy to be of additional assistance.
